ADESA celebrates 15,000th auction

Nov 29, 2012

A proud day for our online used car auction

Let's crack some champagne and celebrate

OPENLANE celebrates 15,000th auctionToday, 29 November, we have launched our 15,000th online car auction. An occasion worth celebrating! It was 8 years ago, on 18 November 2004 to be exact, that the first vehicles went under our digital hammer.

Coincidentally, the very first seller on OPENLANE, namely Alphabet Belgium (then: ING Car Lease Belgium) will offer its vehicles again in today’s landmark auction.

“It is a nice coincidence that we can present our 15,000th auction with cars from our first ever seller”, says Johan Meyssen, CEO of OPENLANE. “However, there is more big news. Soon we will also pass the historic mark of 25,000 sold vehicles. Even more reason to celebrate!”

Belgian vision with international success

In 2004, Belgian entrepreneurs Steven Lismont and Geert DeBecker were some of the first people to believe in the growth potential of online car auctions. In that same year OPENLANE was born. Now our internet vehicle auction company has branches in Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and most recently the Netherlands.

Johan Meyssen explains the success of the enterprise: “We are the only player on the market who has centralised their entire after sales process in Europe, in the main office in Tienen (Belgium). A conscious decision. For our business, a good user experience is key. Buyers and sellers can directly reach their personal contact in their own language. Furthermore, they are able to count on our export expertise and logistic planning.”

Professional car traders can place their bids on our online car auctions now!
